Inspiration Behind CCSM
Christ-Centered Sports Ministry was an idea that later turned into a huge vision and something that I’ve always dreamt about but never imagined it would actually come to life. Back in late 2011, I had aspirations of creating a league for men, young and old, to come together and play flag football. I grew up loving sports, especially football, even though I’ve never played it in school or in any other league. I never even put on pads or any other type of football equipment, but for some reason I fell in love with the game. Ray Lewis was someone that really inspired me by how he not only played the game of football but for his enthusiasm and inspiration that he brought to the field and to his teammates. He believed that anything was possible with God and that “Whatever you want to do, go do it.”
One day, I finally mentioned the idea of creating a flag football league with a friend and a few family members. After praying about it and seeking an answer from God, I realized that I wanted this league to be different from the hundreds and thousands of leagues that were already out there. I didn’t want this league to be the same as any other league. I wanted this league to mean something and to represent something that was dear to my heart. Whenever I dealt with anything in life, it was always God who got me through it. He was always there for me in good times and in bad. Through all my mistakes and lessons in life, I could always thank God for keeping me then and still to this day. I knew this was His idea all along and not mine so why not make this league more about Him and less about me. This is why I knew the league was called to be Christ Centered, and it would be a place where men of all ages can come not only to play the game of football but to have others surround them with love and fellowship. A place where new relationships can be formed and barriers can be broken. A place where you can enjoy yourself, have fun and come to know Christ.
The league has had many football, basketball and soccer tournaments not only for the men but also for the women in the community, over the years. We’ve definitely had our shortcomings and struggles, as any organization or ministry deals with, but through these experiences we continue to learn different strategies that we can use to help us build the ministry and help bring us closer to Christ. With that being said the ministry will continue to grow and evolve with hard work, dedication and prayer. Whether you are saved or unsaved this ministry can be for you. So be on the lookout for our upcoming events. Can’t wait to see you there!
